I have had neither but know several people who have… gastric bypass my friends generally had the best results from… with lapband they keep a open port in your side to make adjustments do you really want that… plus with gastric bypass it cures diabetes… if you dont have it you also wont get it if you have gastric…. good luck!

First of all, I must say that gastric bypass does not “cure diabetes” as someone else told you. What cures it that sometimes (not always) when someone loses a lot of weight and are eating much healthier, the diabetes will then go away. It doesn’t matter if the weight loss if from gastric bypass, banding, or just dieting. It’s the eating healthy and being in a normal weight range that does it.
Lapband is a slower way to lose weight. It also is not as successful as the gastric bypass. The band often needs adjusting in some people and can slip. Adjusting means sticking a huge needle into the port left in your body to either remove or add fluid which adjusts the band. If you don’t lose weight, they can tighten it. If you can hardly eat anything at all, then they can loosen it. Some people have good success from it, but the few people I have known with it has not gotten much good results and all that adjusting is a pain in the behind. But this surgery is less risky and you don’t have the problems with vitamin difficiency, dumping syndrome, or diarrhea that sometimes goes with the gastric bypass.
I know that some doctors prefer the actual bypass in people that need to lose at least 100 pounds or more. They don’t suggest the band for them, but will do it if the patient wants it. If someone does not need to lose a large amount like that, then the band might be a better option for them. I know that Sharon Ozborne got her band done ages ago (over 20 years) and it has worked well for her, but she did not need to lose a lot of weight like over 100 pounds. I’m just using her as one example that everyone knows.

Weight loss surgery usually causes severe nutritional deficiencies which lead to other health problems such as heart disease and osteoporosis. Some people suffer the consquences quickly, others take a while to get sick.
The lapband is at least reversable, the other surgery is more severe, harder on your body and not really reversable. If you are going to have one or the other, go with the lap band surgery.
Keep in mind that many people gain back the weight and then some but they have additional health problems brought on by starving their bodies of necessary nutritients. There is a very real possibility that you may end up worse off than you started.
The studies they quote to convince you to get surgery don’t go on that long, so they have better statistics. Its a deceptive practice.

I know people who’ve had the surgery (both types) and they have all lost their health. They have aged drastically and look terrible.
One of them was really pushing me to have it, now, a year later, she said it was the biggest mistake of her life, and it took away her health.
She had the lap band surgery, which is the least severe form of gastric restriction.
She now says neither form is safe. She begs people to listen to her warnings. Its tragic what its done to her life.

I had my gastric bypass surgery through Forerunners Healthcare Consultants in India I don’t regret it at all I had a baby since then and I’m still able to take the weight off so far i am very happy. The key is to use a reputable surgeon. You want to be carefully screened beforehand to make sure you are a good candidate. Since my surgery I can walk without getting tired, I can play with my son; I can walk down the street with my head held high. I feel pretty for the fist time in years. I was given another shot at life. The surgery is a tool and how well that tool works is up to you!!
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would recommend to every one who is suffering from the same problems as I did before but I would urge anyone who is interested to seek the best surgeon possible and make the decision based on the surgeon’s recommendations and your own personal goals!! Make sure the reasons for the surgery are the right one. The surgery isn’t for someone who just “wants to be skinny”. Do it for your health, for your life, for family. FOR YOU.
