Atkins inspired me to lose about 200 pounds on my own without surgery. Just a lot of hard work and determination. Although I would NEVER down anybody who has had weight loss surgery or plans to in the future. I did not follow Atkins strictly. I basically just avoided bread, pasta, rice, sugar and potatoes.
I drank aspartame constantly (yeah, I know the risks but I was also a sick type 2 diabetic and I weighed the odds) and ate low fat and still dropped the weight like crazy. I’m only giving MY experience. I’m not saying what I did will work as well for someone else. I’m just here to give moral support, advise when asked and cheer people along who feel alone and overwhelmed. I turned my health around in many ways and am always willing to share my experience and help with those who ask. I ALWAYS return messages and am here to help if I can.

Great job on losing the 30! Stick with it. It’ll come off. If I can reach my goal, you can too! I’ve been having trouble maintaining my weight like I figured I would, but I plan to join a gym and keep in shape. The hardest part for me is eating right once the goal is met, I crave foods I couldn’t eat for 15 months, ya know? lol

Amazing. I know low carb works for me, but I only let myself get so far, then regress. This time, I feel more motivated. It’s not easy, but it is doable. I’m fighting heredity and age. Ho hum…..

@Gator2010Girl
Thank you so much! You know, I didn’t have too touch of a time sticking to my diet, but now that I reached my goal and eat normal foods again, I’m finding it harder than hell! I actually lost a little more weight than I had intended to, but recently I put on 7 pounds. I quit jogging and have just become a big lump sitting around. I’m still technically underweight, but to watch flab come on instead of muscle is not good. I worked too hard to get here. I’ll get back on my routine.

@taintedangel84
Thanks…
Actually, the few pics I showed of myself at my heaviest were taken in a room full of family with people trying to get me to smile. I’m not a smiler or picture taker, so I typically never appear happy. lol Also, I’ve been sick for the majority of my weight loss and still am. From years of obesity I caused myself to develop gallstones and killed my gallbladder. Preparing for surgery at the present time. Interesting though, I never noticed how I appeared!

@ScarlettOBeara
Start out small and work your way there. My mom followed Atkins book and diet plan to the letter and lost her weight, but it was too much for me. I just read labels for sugar/carb content and walked! Whatever way works for you, good luck in it!

@ScarlettOBeara dieting works very well for some people. The weight literally poured off of me.
If I can lose over 200 pounds, you can lose weight too! If you knew me you’d know that to be true. I was THE BIGGEST food/sugar addict around. Diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and a whole list of medical problems I no longer have now. The key is to not let yourself get overwhelmed and feel like a failure if you can’t follow a strict Atkins diet. I can tell you what I ate if that helps….

@ScarlettOBeara
Thank you!
I never did the induction phase. All I did was go low carb. I never followed any diet plan other than watching the carb intake. For me, Atkins was too strict. I just did my own thing and it worked! I started out walking one mile 5 nights of the week, then moved onto 2-3 miles almost every day. In the end I was jogging those 2-3 miles. I’ve actually backed way off now because I have surpassed my goal and lost more weight than I should have. Low carb

@mssexyny I sure will message you first thing tomorrow. There’s NO need to be as extreme as Atkins tries to claim. I did not follow a carb guideline and was not at all that strict on myself. I ate fruit every day for breakfast and it was usually the worst fruit to eat—the banana! There’s a lot I did differently because I knew I’d fail trying to lose the weight if I didn’t do what felt right for me. But I’ll drop you a message.
